What do you do when after 22 years you find yourself in the job market?

Well my plan was to spend all this free time running, cycling, climbing and hill walking; plus the occasional visit to the pub. My wife didn't share my new found ideas, so it's back to work. But before trying to take up a brand new profession like lumberjacking or deepsea diving, why not do something I know I'm good at. So here we are. Between myself and Mike we have 50yrs in the print and design industry, yes we are getting on a bit! My early years were spent at Contact printers where I trained as a signwriter, slash, doing a bit of everything else, which included screen printing, litho printing and design. From there I moved into prepress and design at David Winters (Winters the printers) in Dundee. In 1987 I left Dundee to start work at Nevisprint in Fort William, where I worked my way up the ladder and back down again, from film planner to mac operator to prepress manager. Our work came from all over Scotland and ranged from leaflets to corporate brochures, software boxes to case bound books and everything in between. My years at Nevisprint gave me a great insight into what is required to get a job from conception to print with the least amount of hassle, something I feel I can now pass on to our customers.

I was at a loose end after the company I was working for got thrown into a skip.

I have an honours degree in design and a diploma in typography. After a brief stint teaching 'creative design enterprise'(!) I worked as a designer for the publishers Prentice Hall and Simon & Schuster. In the mid-nineties I became the graphic designer for the manufacturer Adams Rite and over six years redesigned their marketing & technical media, packaging, display stands, websites and videos. During my time there I also worked on new product branding and corporate identities for new subsidiary companies. I moved to the highlands in 2003 where I've been just as busy ever since, firstly working with Promote Marketing and then as Nevisprint's graphic designer. John and I started Wagtail in 2008. In my spare time I enjoy extreme dog walking and pies.
